アマゾンプライム・ビデオで”プロジェクトヘイルメアリー“を観ました。
原作は読んでいないので、ビジュアル先行で観たわけですが、とっても素晴らしい作品でした。作品の感想は別のレビュー記事を読んでもらった方がよほどためになると思いますので、このTALKでは、作品を観たことで何を感じ取ったのか？というところをお話しようと思います。
このストーリーに登場する異星人は、ヒューマノイドとは姿形も全く違うし、言語も物理法則もまったく共通的がありません。でも、主人公の科学者は、何とその異星人と意思疎通するところまでいきつき、地球と異星人の母星を救う答えを、異星人と協力して導き出すというストーリー。しかも、信頼関係をも構築して親友になるという何とも奇想天外だけど、心にじんわり響くストーリーでもあります。
そんな作品を観るに、一番思ったことは、いまのアメリカの醜い姿です。ま、簡単に言ってしまえば分断を煽る指導者と、それを是とする支持者たち。加えて、指導者自身が私利私欲のためだけに権力を乱用して好き勝手なことをしている。一方の支持者たちは、訳も分からず拍手を送るという現状なわけですが、その対局には民主党があり、更には無党派もいるという、まさに分断の極みを絵に描いたような国になっています。
アメリカ人のことだからお好きにどうぞ、とも言えず、世界中が、そんなアメリカに悩まされています。更に、ことを複雑にしているのが、イスラエルに騙されて始めたアメリカにとっては大義がないイランとの戦争です。この戦争でも、国外のことに全く無知なアメリカ人は、イランは悪魔だという何の根拠もないプロバガンダにのせられて、イランとの戦争に賛成する国民が一定数いると聞いています。
で、ここからが核心です。アメリカ国内にする同じアメリカ人同士ですら、隣人を理解できず、気が触れた指導者の意のままに分断を続けています。そんなアメリカ人ですから、イランの人たちの本当の姿すら見ずに何の根拠もなく敵視しています。そんなことでは、なにひとつ解決しないし、黄金時代なんて程遠い空想でしかありません。主張が違うアメリカ人であっても、宗教が違うイラン人であっても、一歩づつ理解を深める歩みをはじめないと、アメリカという国はいずれ世界から取り残されてしまうはずです。だれが正しいかとかということではなく、隣人はどんな人間なのかを理解しないままでは、何も進歩はありません。もちろん、成果もありません。こんなことをいつまでも続けていると、”サイロ“のように戦争に末に人間が自由に生きられる場所をなくすことになるかもしれません。余談ですが、”サイロ“ではイランと戦闘を続けるアメリカが滅び、残った一部の人類がサイロで行くていくという作品みたいです。

アメリカによるイラン攻撃は、これまでアメリカ人がアンフェアの代名詞に使ってきた宣戦布告なしの奇襲攻撃をそっくり真似て実行に移した愚かな戦争ですよね。余談ですが、今後、真珠湾攻撃を例に汚いやり口だと言う会話は謹んでもらいたいですね。しかも、宗教と政治が一体になっている国の元首を家族揃って空爆で暗殺してしまいました。そうした行いをイランがこのまま放置しているはずがありません。恐らく、あの9.11を遥かに凌ぐ報復を計画しているに違いありません。そうした過ちを犯して、なお平然と不正を働いている大統領を野放しにしているアメリカは、一体全体どうなってしまっているのか？まったく理解できませんし、日本としてはこれを契機に同盟のあり方を見直すようにしないと、アメリカのトバッチリを受けるリスクもゼロとは言えません。そんなわけで、我が家では、今後、数年間アメリカ旅行には行かないことに決めました。危なすぎます。建国250年を祝っている場合じゃないと思いますよ。
I watched “Project Hail Mary” on Amazon Prime Video.
Since I hadn’t read the original work, I went into this based solely on the visuals—and it turned out to be a truly wonderful film. I think it would be far more helpful for you to read other reviews for detailed impressions of the film, so in this TALK, I’d like to talk about what I personally took away from watching it.
The aliens in this story look nothing like humanoids, and they share absolutely nothing in common with us—neither language nor the laws of physics. However, the story follows the protagonist—a scientist—who manages to communicate with these aliens and, working together with them, finds a solution to save both Earth and their home planet. What’s more, they build a relationship of trust and become close friends—a plot that’s utterly outlandish yet deeply moving.
Watching this film, what struck me most was the ugly reality of America today. Well, to put it simply: there are leaders who stoke division, and supporters who condone it. On top of that, the leaders themselves are abusing their power solely for personal gain and doing whatever they please. Meanwhile, their supporters are applauding without even understanding why—that’s the current reality. On the opposite side are the Democrats, and there are also independents; it’s a country that’s become the very picture of extreme division.
I can’t just say, “It’s America, so do as you please,” because the whole world is suffering because of this state of affairs. Furthermore, complicating matters is the war with Iran—a conflict in which the U.S., having been deceived by Israel, has no just cause. Even in this war, I’ve heard that a significant number of Americans, who are completely ignorant of foreign affairs, have been swayed by baseless propaganda portraying Iran as the devil and support the war against Iran.
And here’s the crux of the matter. Even among Americans themselves within the United States, people cannot understand their neighbors and continue to be divided at the whim of a deranged leader. Because Americans are like this, they view the Iranian people with hostility without any basis, without even seeing their true nature. Nothing will be resolved this way, and a “golden age” remains nothing more than a distant fantasy. Whether it’s Americans with differing views or Iranians of a different faith, unless we begin taking steps—one at a time—to deepen our understanding, the United States will eventually be left behind by the rest of the world. It’s not about who is right or wrong; without understanding what kind of people our neighbors are, there will be no progress. And, of course, no results either. If we keep this up indefinitely, we may end up, like in *Silo*, with a world where war has left humanity with no place to live freely. As an aside, *Silo* is a story in which the United States, still at war with Iran, is destroyed, and the remaining fraction of humanity survives in silos.

The U.S. attack on Iran is a foolish war that perfectly mimics the kind of surprise attack without a declaration of war that Americans have long used as a byword for unfairness. As an aside, I’d like people to refrain from using the Pearl Harbor attack as an example of “dirty tactics” in future conversations. What’s more, they assassinated the head of state of a country where religion and politics are intertwined—along with his entire family—in an airstrike. There’s no way Iran will just let such actions go unpunished. They’re undoubtedly planning retaliation that will far exceed the scale of 9/11. What on earth has happened to the United States, which has committed such a mistake and yet continues to let a president who commits injustices with a straight face run rampant? I simply cannot understand it, and as for Japan, unless we use this as an opportunity to reevaluate the nature of our alliance, we cannot say for certain that we’ll be completely immune to the fallout from the U.S. For that reason, my family has decided not to travel to the United States for the next few years. It’s far too dangerous. I don’t think this is the time to be celebrating the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding.
